The Civic Society celebrated its 50th birthday In 2019 with a party on Port Hill in Hertford.
We were fortunate to have been invited back to celebrate the society’s anniversary on the hallowed ground of Port Hill, where founder Alan Melville lived. It was hosted by Jane and Harold
Chaplin across 2 linked gardens, a series of different levels and a terrace with a seat presented to the Melvilles at the Society’s 20th anniversary. This seat rests on paving graced with delightful hand-cut lettering which aptly reads:
‘Enchanting garden where the sun smiles on a hundred delicate friendships’. Live music was provided by Jazz singer and pianist, Brendan Dowse jazz singer/pianist.
